Project details
The Pelgu community garden is envisioned as an edible garden, where residents have the freedom to grow food, spend their leisure time, and organize outdoor events and workshops. This initiative was made possible through the financial support of the B.Green Program (CB910).
During the landscape design phase, a collaboration was established with the NGO Pelguaia to encourage the exchange of ideas and promote an inclusive environment. The implementation of an operational model for community gardens has helped stimulate the creation of similar spaces in both Tallinn and other locations across Estonia. The active participation of individuals from different parts of Tallinn in urban gardening workshops highlights a strong interest and widespread desire to implement effective practices elsewhere.
At the heart of the project was the creation of a garden based on sustainable development principles, aimed at supporting the activities of the community garden and with the goal of transferring the experiences gained to other contexts, both in Tallinn and throughout Estonia. The landscape design outlined a common area with small plots of land, creating a unique concept for both the city of Tallinn and the entire country of Estonia.
